Collection of experimental scripts, from the arbitrary disappearance of irrational objects onwards. First installment: Capricious.

Created by visual artist Vivie Kassara.

An endangered mythical hybrid is dispersed into a constellation, a unique Latin American post-war literary creature is abducted by a bright whisk of wind, a multi-conscious cinematic myth is lost during a hike.

Capricious, as a series of texts, traces a path from nostalgia and memory to amnesia and dismemberment, from loneliness and disassociation to extinction, studying the whimsical tendency of fictional characters -imaginary, irrational objects - to disappear spontaneously.

Based on the etymological correlation of the words remember [(re + member): to recall, (literally) to reconstitute, to reunite] and dismember [(dis + member): to separate, to divide)] we observe three irrational objects whilst they lose their integrity and identity and are fatally driven to oblivion. What happens to fictional creatures when the story ends? Their mythical nature already makes them ephemeral and elusive. In its meta-analysis, it seems that their existence depends directly on external observation, which sets in motion the fake world that hosts them. In the case of myths, observation affects the outcome to the extent that it allows it to occur, even if the course is predetermined.

It is a process of revealing the mechanism of fiction, which uncovers a deeper basis for identification with the public: With the absence of witnesses, the loss of identity suddenly seems very easy and disappearance, even potentially or momentary, is a place where anyone can find themselves. The act of knowledge, of testimony, of advocacy helps to resurface the unconfirmed existence, the unconfirmed fact from non-existence. The events of the past, the experiences of the present are abstract, when they are validated only by their self-acceptance. Memory is something that is shared. A claim that mythologizes what is real and demystifies what is mythical.

Capricious (collection of texts - sculptural installation) was presented for the first time in June 2022, as part of the Degree Shows at the Athens School of Fine Arts (Piraeus 256, Ag. Ioannis Rentis, Athens, Greece).
